Registering personal property in Edmonton involves understanding the procedures and requirements set by the Personal Property Registry, which is responsible for recording security interests in movable assets. It’s essential to identify the specific type of personal property you’re registering, whether it’s a vehicle, equipment, inventory, or other movable assets used for business or personal purposes.
The registry ensures that these security interests are publicly documented, protecting the rights of lenders and individuals who have a financial stake in the property. To register, you’ll typically need to provide:
A description of the collateral and any relevant financing statements

A lien/debtor search request searches Alberta’s Personal Property Registry Information System database for liens or encumbrances that have been registered in Alberta against a vehicle, personal property, individual, or business.
A Lien Search only provides information on liens registered in Alberta. To search for liens only on personal property outside Alberta, contact the jurisdiction directly or contact us for an out-of-province Lien Search (a fee is charged). For additional vehicle history information from all provinces regarding registration claims, import data, and liens, Carfax Reports are available.
Before purchasing a used vehicle or accepting the item as collateral, we recommend that you obtain a lien search and a vehicle history report.
