Purchase a License Plate in Alberta

In Alberta, a valid License plate must be displayed on your vehicle at all times. We can help with all License plate services, including purchasing a new one, transferring a plate to a new vehicle, replacing a lost, stolen or damaged plate, or returning a License plate.

What you need to purchase a License plate

Visit us in person at Registrations Are Us to purchase a License plate with one of our registry agents. You will need:

  • Your driver’s License
  • Proof of vehicle ownership, such as a Bill of Sale or Lease Agreemen
  • Proof of valid insurance (pink slip)
  • NVIS (New Vehicle Information Statement)

Once you’ve purchased your License plate, it must be displayed in one of these places:

  • On the back of your vehicle
  • On the front of your vehicle, if the vehicle is a tractor-trailer
  • On the back mudguard or back fender, if your vehicle is a motorcycle
