To apply for a motorcycle Licence in Alberta, you must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s Licence or a Class 7 (learner’s) Licence. If you have either of these Licences, you can proceed to apply for a motorcycle Licence and begin the process of obtaining your motorcycle riding privileges.
While taking a motorcycle safety course is not mandatory, it is highly recommended. Completing an approved motorcycle safety course not only enhances your riding skills but also provides valuable insights into safe riding practices. These courses offer a great opportunity to build confidence and learn essential techniques before hitting the road on your motorcycle.
The motorcycle road test is a practical assessment of your riding skills. It evaluates your ability to control the motorcycle, handle various riding scenarios, and adhere to traffic rules. To prepare for the road test, practice riding your motorcycle in different road conditions, practice maneuvering, braking, and turning safely. You can also review the Alberta Motorcycle Operator’s Handbook, which provides valuable information about motorcycle safety and operation.
You’ll need access to a properly registered and insured motorcycle for the road test. The motorcycle you use should meet the necessary safety standards and be in good working condition. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the controls and characteristics of the motorcycle you’ll be using for the test. It’s recommended to practice on the same motorcycle you plan to use for the road test to ensure you’re comfortable and confident during the assessment.
