What you need to renew your driver’s License in Alberta
It is illegal to drive with an expired driver’s License. Any License that has been expired for more than 3 years will be subject to passing another written and road test before reinstatement. If the photograph on your License is four or more years old, a new one must be taken.

- For class 1, 2, or 4 driver’s Licenses
- If you are 75 years old or older
- If you have a current medical condition that could interfere with your ability to operate a motor vehicle safely
Proof of Alberta residency and Canadian citizenship or immigration documentation is required if you are exchanging an out-of-province driver’s License for an Alberta driver’s License.
